A limited number of fans will get the chance to catch some of the Detroit Pistons’ young core in action. The team announced Wednesday that up to 750 fans would be able to attend its second-half season opener against the Toronto Raptors on March 17. The tickets will go on sale beginning Thursday at 10 a.m. and can be purchased on detroitpistons.com or TicketMaster.

The Pistons worked with state and local government health officials to determine the minimum number of fans that could attend games. Detroit is now the 18th team in the NBA that has allowed limited fan attendance. It also coordinated with the NBA and Little Caesars Arena to come up with an extensive set of health and safety measures in preparation for hosting more fans:

  • All seats will be physically distanced.
  • All fans aged 2 years and older will be required to wear a mask for the duration of their time inside the venue except when eating or drinking at their seating location.
  • Marked physical distancing while navigating the venue.
  • Completion of health survey screening for all guests entering the arena no more than 24 hours before the game.
  • Installation of mobile ticket scanning pedestals.
  • Cashless payments in the parking lot and for food and beverage.
  • Any and all bags will be prohibited for all games.

The Pistons had already begun allowing a limited number of guests into Little Caesars Arena in January. Most of those in attendance, included family and friends of players.

“In preparation for hosting a limited number of fans during these challenging times, we are grateful to work closely with state and local health professionals, the NBA and Olympia Entertainment in creating a safe and welcoming environment,” Mike Zavodsky, Chief Business Officer for the Detroit Pistons, said in a statement. “We thank our fans and the community for their continued support during this time as we worked through all necessary steps and benchmarks required for welcoming you back to Little Caesars Arena safely.”

Only 12 teams have not opened their arenas to fans. The teams allowing fans include: the Atlanta Hawks, the Brooklyn Nets, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Charlotte Hornets, the Dallas Mavericks, the Houston Rockets, the Indianan Pacers, the Memphis Grizzlies, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Miami Heat, the New Orleans Pelicans, the New York Knicks, the Phoenix Suns, the San Antonio Spurs and the Utah Jazz.
