Rays selling tickets next week for Yankees, Mets, Phillies games - Tampa Bay Times

ST. PETERSBURG — The Rays will put tickets on sale next week for May homestands that include games against the Mets, Phillies and last-place Yankees.

Capacity at Tropicana Field will remain at around 9,000, as it was for the first homestand, and the season-long 10-game stretch that opens Friday, featuring visits by the Blue Jays, A’s and Astros.

Other health and safety protocols will remain in place through May, including fans being required to wear masks (except when actively eating or drinking in their assigned seats), no bags allowed in the stadium and all ticketing done through the MLB Ballpark app.

“We were able to provide a safe, comfortable and exciting environment,” team president Matt Silverman said of the initial seven-game homestand. “While we will continue to fine-tune our procedures, the large majority of our fans respected their neighbors and heeded our consistent reminders to wear masks when not eating or drinking.”

There will be a New York invasion at the Trop on May 11-16, as the Rays host the Yankees and Mets for three games each. The weekend series with the Mets will feature the first chance for slugging first baseman Pete Alonso, the Jesuit and Plant High product and 2019 National League Rookie of the Year, to play in his home area as a major-leaguer.

The second homestand includes three games against the Royals on May 25-27, then a two-game, Saturday-Sunday Memorial Day weekend set with the Phillies, who also have a local connection with their spring base in Clearwater.

Tickets for the May series will go on sale to the general public April 30. Season members, including those who sign up by this Friday, will have access to a pre-sale. See raysbaseball.com/SeasonMembership for detaiIs.

The Rays are taking a slow approach to increase capacity, Silverman said, “choosing to walk before we run.”

There has not yet been a need. After attracting a full house of 9,021 for the home opener April 9, they drew 6,270 and 6,965 for Saturday-Sunday games against the Yankees, then 3,627, 4,753, 3,021 and 4,217 for weekday games vs. the Rangers.
