After nearly two years as CWT's vice president of payments, David Holmes has left the mega TMC for a virtual and travel payments leadership role with American Express. Holmes now serves as vice president of the virtual payments platform and central travel payments for Amex, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Holmes joined CWT in April 2019 in the newly created role of payments vice president after more than 17 years with UATP, including a stint as chief commercial officer. It wasn't immediately clear as of Tuesday afternoon whether CWT would replace Holmes. At the time of Holmes' hiring, CWT had touted the creation of the new payment leadership position as a sign of its increased emphasis on delivering support and innovation around its clients' evolving payment needs.
However, the drastic decline in business travel since the onset of the global Covid-19 pandemic has slowed travel-related payment activity, drying up booking revenues for many TMCs and leading to workforce reductions by some of the industry's biggest names.
