Patriots-Dolphins anti-analysis: Chase Winovich is selling a dog treadmill if anyone wants it - MassLive.com

guduka.blogspot.com

The Patriots are leaving the snow-blasted icescape that is New England this weekend to go down and play the Miami Dolphins.

Like most people these days, the Patriots have been stuck inside all year on account of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now they have the snow to contend with.

It can be tough to deal with when you’re trying to get exercise -- or even just take your dog for a walk. That’s why second-year linebacker Chase Winvovich opted to buy a treadmill for his dog, Zeus.

It didn’t work out.

Patriots-Dolphins anti-analysis

I’m not here to analyze the Patriots’ game this Sunday. That sounds like actual work Chris Mason or Matt Vautour would do (suckers). Instead, I’m here to point out 5-10 observations and general tidbits that have at least a tangential connection to Sunday’s game.

1. Chase Winovich is selling a dog treadmill, apparently

During his regular appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Zolak & Bertrand Show, Winovich gave some background in his curious tweet this week where he was apparently trying to sell a dog treadmill.

So, what’s the story behind it?

“Unfortunately, Zeus wasn’t a huge fan of it,” Winovich said. “But it is looking for a new and better home to make room for other gadgets that could potentially help my football career and give me balance and peace in my life.

“Zeus’ breed is a Samoyed and Samoyeds are one of the oldest dog breeds in the world. So they’re obviously work animals and they’re very active. So in my head, I’m like, I want to be able to stabilize and bring stability to his workout routine. It sounds weird to consider his workout, being able to have fitness regardless of what the weather is outside, just making sure he can be active. It was pretty idealistic, didn’t work out like that.”

Winovich says he’s not trying to find the right buyer for the treadmill. If he can’t, he says he’ll donate it.

Fortunately, he did dig into his replies to follow-up with a picture:

That looks in pretty good condition. It probably won’t last very long on the market.

2. Joe Andruzzi did not have the most flattering description of a second-year Tom Brady

Brady’s ascension from backup to sudden starter in New England is the stuff of legend. But at the time, the second-year quarterback’s entry into the lineup wasn’t exactly seen as a positive after then-starter Drew Bledsoe went down with injury.

As former Patriots offensive lineman Joe Andruzzi described it in the Sports Museum’s “Tradition” special that aired Wednesday on NESN, Brady came in as this scrawny quarterback that no one had ever heard of.

“It was the (second) game, and Drew went down,” Andruzzi said (via the Boston Globe). “He decided to run with the ball, which he never did before. But he did get injured, and in came this big scrawny kid that you just wanted to smack the smile off his face.”

As history showed, Brady wound up turning the Patriots’ fortunes around and turned into the sort of competitor that even guys like Andruzzi came to respect.

Even before Brady stepped into the starting lineup, Andruzzi had noted the young quarterback’s work effort.

“He had that drive and determination where he worked all offseason,” Andruzzi said. “He wanted to be that backup, and he was that backup when the chance came. He stepped right in, and it only takes one chance. He got his chance, and he ran with it.”

3. What are retired Patriots up to now? Former LB Rosevelt Colvin is an up-and-coming UPS Store magnate

Colvin was way ahead of the curve in prepping for his post-football career. By 2006, Colvin already owned two UPS store locations in his hometown of Indianapolis and still had another couple of NFL seasons in him. Now, he’s starring in commercials for them as a store owner.

After he retired, Colvin also helped out with his wife, Tiffany Colvin, start her own baking business. Now, 11 years later, SweeTies Gourmet Treats is still in business and handling online orders.

They can make the heck out of a taco cake:

4. The “Hey, He Plays for That Team Now?” Player of the Week

OL Ereck Flowers

If you know any New York Giants fans, you probably heard about the former first-round pick’s struggles at tackle.

He plays guard now.

5. Name of the Week: Durval Queiroz Neto

Neto is unique on the Dolphins roster in that he has an unusual listing under “college.” His alma mater is listed as “none.”

The 28-year-old defensive lineman didn’t play conventional college football in the U.S. Instead, he jumped right to the NFL out of Brazil signed with the Dolphins through the International Gateways program last season.

6. How many former Patriots do the Dolphins have, exactly?

  • DL Nick Coe
  • WR Isaiah Ford
  • OL Tyler Gauthier
  • LB Kamu Grugier-Hill
  • OL Ted Karras
  • LB Calvin Munson
  • LB Elandon Roberts
  • CB Eric Rowe
  • LB Kyle Van Noy

Props if you remember Nick Coe from his time as an undrafted free agent earlier this year -- or if you recall Grugier-Hill as a sixth-round pick in 2016.

7. Meanwhile, in Buffalo: The Bills get into a post-practice snowball fight

8. Get to know a random player: No. 24, CB Byron Jones

(In this segment, I go to a random number generator and get a number 1-100. The first number I get that corresponds with a jersey number on the opposing roster gets a random biographical deep dive.)

Jones was born in New Britain, Connecticut and wound up going to UConn. He had a great college career, but it wasn’t until the NFL Scouting Combine that he exploded as a prospect. At 6-foot-1, he ran a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash and broke the record for the broad jump at 12 feet, 3 inches.

He wound up going to the Dallas Cowboys at No. 27 overall and turned into a star cornerback for them before hopping over to the Dolphins in free agency.

In his first season in Miami, Jones became the team’s nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Jones’ contributions in the community including football camps back in New Britain, works with a program that lets local youths meet Dolphins players. He also leads the team’s Social Impact Committee.
