You could be living la dolce vita for way less than a Starbucks coffee.
That’s right—a number of towns in Italy are selling homes for the price of roughly $1.
Fox News reports that towns such as Salemi and Tronia in Sicily and a town named Laurenzana in the country’s Potenza province are offering such shockingly low prices in order to draw new residents to their locations.
Laurenzana specifically has listed approximately 50 properties at this price, 10 of which are homes “in the historical heart of the town” while the remaining 40 have been left abandoned.
But don’t let the word “abandoned” make you shy away from this daydream: These properties still hail from the 1800s, and, according to Travel + Leisure, boast details from that era such as wrought iron balconies.
To sweeten the pot even further, the mayor of Laurenzana, Michaele Ungaro, has decreased renovation fees—which hit between $2,400 to $6,000 in the other towns offering these prices—to $382.
So, basically, if you’re interested in doing this, you could get a lovely home in lovely Italy and lovingly renovate it all for the price of about $383 USD.
If you do want to modernize these homes, though, there is the one catch—Mayor Ungaro said buyers should be willing to pay at least $24,000 for such renovations.
In order to potentially snag such a crazy good deal, interested parties must pitch proposals to town officials that state which property they’re interested in and explain how they plan to renovate it.
Before anything can be finalized, said interested parties must also visit Laurenzana to makes this action concrete.
So, basically, at the end of the day, it’s a dollar spent and a trip to Italy taken. What more do you need?
