Payments for up to $10,000 dollars will be able to be claimed in the upcoming months by Oregon residents, thanks to a $10 million pot of unclaimed funds that was made available by the authorities.
This was announced by Treasurer Tobias Read, who said that the unclaimed funds will be handed back to residents by summer.
"We're excited to return millions of dollars in unclaimed funds to their rightful owners," Read expressed.
Oregon residents will receive their unclaimed funds
This is part of an initiative called Checks Without Claims, which intends to give the forgotten funds to their rightful owners.
Once state authorities identify and determine who the owner of an unclaimed fund is, they'll receive a letter notifying them of the payment, which will range between $50 and $10,000 dollars.
Around 372 people in Eugene, Oregon will be sent $153,000 dollars.
The State's Treasury is currently in possession of $1 billion dollars in unclaimed funds, but for now only $10 million will be returned.
