Who is eligible?

• Individuals in eligible low-income households.
• Most adults between the ages of 18 and 52 who do not have children in their household can receive SNAP benefits for only three months in a three-year period. The benefit period may be longer if the person works at least 20 hours a week or is in an employment or training program. Some adults may not have to work to get benefits, such as people with disabilities or who are pregnant.
• Households in which all members are seniors (age 60 or older) or people with disabilities can participate in the Texas Streamlined Application Project (TSAP), which eases the SNAP application process and provides benefits for three years instead of six months.

Most people between the ages of 16 and 59 must follow work rules to receive SNAP benefits. The work rules state that a person must be looking for work or be in an approved work program. If the person has a job, he or she cannot quit without a good reason.

When will the January SNAP Texas deposit be made?

Based on the last two digits of the EDG number, households receive their monthly benefits on a staggered basis from the 1st through the 28th of the month.
