Many Americans are still hurting financially during the pandemic, but the House of Representatives and the Senate are on recess until September and an agreement on a second stimulus package hasn’t been reached.

So, what gives?

Will, those who need extra cash to get through the coronavirus downturn get it? How much might they get if an agreement is reached? And when might that happen?

Cnet.com took a stab at answering those questions in a recent report.

First, the good news.

Both Republican and Democratic leaders are in agreement that a second stimulus package is needed. The bad news is, they still can’t come together enough to make that happen for the people who need it most.

And, with them being in recess and both parties’ national conventions on the calendar, they are not likely, according to Cnet, to start talking deal again anytime soon.

So, a deal will, likely, continue to be delayed.

And, if they are able to finally come to agreement, the numbers are going to be different.

The first round of stimulus payments — March’s CARES Act — provided most individuals with incomes under $99,000 with stimulus payments of $1,200 and $500 per child under 17.

The Democrats proposed the Heroes Act which “would place a cap of $6,000 for households of five or more,” according to Cnet. That plan would also pay each adult $1,200 “with a maximum of three dependents per family.”

The Republicans countered that with the HEALS Act which Cnet doesn’t mention a cap and doesn’t limit the number of dependents who are eligible for the $500 payment.

Obviously, there’s still plenty to be sorted out between the two sides, but, it’s likely a second payment would be similar to the first round.

But Cnet said the wheels probably won’t start spinning again for weeks as, it said, sessions may not resume until Sept. 8.

So, it appears that a second stimulus package will still happen, but it could be a while before that happens.
