VENTURA, Calif. - The Ventura County Sheriff's Office arrested a Ventura resident Wednesday for illegally manufacturing firearms, known as "Ghost Guns," and selling them.
Throughout July and August, detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Special Crimes Unit worked with the Sheriff’s Gang Unit to locate a man suspected of illegally manufacturing and selling firearms.
Around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, detectives with the Sheriff’s Gang Unit conducted an enforcement stop on the suspect near his residence in Ventura.
The 26-year-old man was detained while deputies searched his vehicle. Deputies reported finding nine unregistered and loaded firearms inside the vehicle which they believe to be unlawfully made by the suspect.
Detectives then acquired and served search warrants at two of the suspect's residences within Ventura. During those searches, deputies said firearm manufacturing equipment, ammunition, and five unregistered firearms were seized. In total nine handguns, two AR-15’s and two assault weapons were located.
Deputies explained these unregistered firearms are commonly referred to as “Ghost Guns” because they are privately made and lack serial numbers or official markings.
The Ventura man was consequently arrested for various firearm offenses, including the manufacturing of assault weapons. He was booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility.
