CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Cleveland man will spend at least seven years in prison after he admitted selling materials showing the sexual abuse of children.
Matthew Elliott, 40, was sentenced Tuesday to seven to 10 ½ years in prison after he pleaded guilty last month to 18 counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, according to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley.
In October 2020, Berea police received an anonymous tip about child sexual abuse items being displayed on a website, prosecutors say. The Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force then began investigating and found an ad on the website from Elliott offering to sell sexual-abuse materials from locations in Cleveland and Lakewood involving children.
“I have very nice videos available for whoever may be interested,” the ad read, according to prosecutors. “I have some screen shots posted on here of what I have available.” Investigators linked Elliott to the ad through an IP address and account information.
On Oct. 30, 2020, Elliott asked for $200 from an undercover investigator. When Elliott received the money, he sent hundreds of images containing child sexual-abuse material to the investigator, prosecutors say. Elliott was arrested on Dec. 17, 2020.
“I am incredibly proud of the hard work that our Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force does to keep our children safe,” O’Malley said in a statement. “This individual exploited children for profit and will pay the price behind bars.”
Elliott will be listed as a Tier II sex offender for 25 years and must register every 180 days. The Ohio Department of Corrections will review the case and Elliott’s behavior after he has served seven years and will whether he should be released.
