For the first time, popular discount variety chain store Dollar Tree will sell items that cost more than $1.
The company announced in a press release it will add products priced above $1 in all of its Dollar Tree Plus stores and select Dollar Tree legacy stores.
There will be 500 Dollar Tree Plus stores by the end of 2021, the company said, and 5,000 locations by the end of 2024. These stores will offer an assortment of items priced at $1, $3 and $5.
Products priced above $1 will include arts and crafts, sporting goods, home decor, apparel, and holiday and seasonal items.
There are more than 160 Dollar Tree stores located in New Jersey. It was unknown how many of them will carry items priced above $1.
“For decades, our customers have enjoyed the ‘thrill-of-the-hunt’ for value at one dollar — and we remain committed to that core proposition — but many are telling us that they also want a broader product assortment when they come to shop,” Dollar Tree president and CEO Michael Witynski said.
“Our brand promise is that customers get great value for what they spend at Dollar Tree. We will continue to be fiercely protective of that promise, regardless of the price point.”
Dollar Tree, which acquired Family Dollar in 2015, will also expand its combo stores, which share Dollar Tree and Family Dollar branding. The company currently has 105 combo stores and expects to add 400 more in 2022.
The company operates over 15,800 stores in the United States and Canada.
