Tottenham have completed their expected permanent move for attacker Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus, although a report on the payment structure is somewhat surprising.
The Italian giants confirmed on Saturday evening that Spurs have turned the Sweden international’s 18-month loan stint into a permanent move, with the north London outfit said to have paid what looks to be a bargain £25million fee for his signature.
But despite that lower fee, Football Italia claims that the overall figure will be paid back over ‘six financial years’.
Whether that suggests that the summer transfer budget has been tightened at Tottenham this summer remains to be seen, especially given that Ange Postecoglou is expected to oversee a rebuild in north London after a disastrous 2022/23 campaign.
However, the addition of Kulusevski for such a fee looks to be excellent business for Spurs, even if the attacker did not have the same impact last season as he did when he initially arrived.
When announcing the transfer, Juve said in an official statement: “Juventus Football Club S.p.A announce that Tottenham Hotspur F.C. have exercised the option rights for the definitive acquisition of the registration rights of the player Dejan Kulusevski for a consideration of € 30m, to be paid in six financial years.
“This operation generates a positive economic effect of approximately € 12.8m.”
Kulu price drop sees Tottenham land a bargain
The Premier League side did have an option to sign Kulusevski permanently for €35m but managed to negotiate a lower fee with the Bianconeri’ having already paid €10m for his loan services.
Kulusevski scored nine goals in 74 appearances with the Old Lady, while he has notched seven times in 57 games at Tottenham.
The Swede has signed a contract until June 2028 in north London, becoming the first official signing of the Postecoglou era as a result.
He is also expected to be the first of many, with the Australian also wanting a new keeper, two new centre-backs and at least one new midfielder.
