Weis Markets ends trial shopping cart payment system - WPMT FOX 43

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — Weis Markets has ended its trial quarter-based shopping cart system at select central Pennsylvania stores.

Designed to help keep shopping carts in convenient locations and minimize theft and damage to cars due to loose carts, customers at select Weis locations needed to insert a quarter to get a cart. Upon returning the cart, they would receive their quarter back.

"There was a brief test in a few of our stores, that test has ended and we're still exploring, but not planning to implement it chain-wide anytime soon," said Dennis Curtin, the director of public relations for Weis Markets.

The test locations were at the Carlisle location, the Union Deposit Harrisburg location and the Lebanon location located on South 12th Street.

Aldi, another popular grocery chain, has implemented, and stuck with, the quarter-based rent-a-cart system.

Adblock test (Why?)
