BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The latest update from the IRS reports more than 9 million New Yorkers have received a combined $15 billion in the form of “Economic Impact Payments," better known as stimulus checks.
But despite millions getting a check, there are still countless waiting, like Renee Mcnerney from South Buffalo.
“It’s been very frustrating for me because I could use the money. I have bills to pay too,” Mcnerney said.
She believes she qualifies and filed for both her husband and herself through the non-filer online tool back in April. Her husband who is on social security got a payment shortly after, but Mcnerney did not.
“I feel like I’m left out,” she said over a phone interview.
The “Get My Payment” tool shows a denied message for Mcnerney whenever she tries to check the status of her check.
A tax expert told 7 Eyewitness News last month, about five million mailed checks would be sent out weekly. Each week would move to a new income level. Mcnerney believes she should’ve gotten that check by now if that’s the case.
“Figured they, ya know, just because I don't have a steady job, I figured they just forgot about me,” she said.
Last week, Mcnerney called the recently rolled out stimulus line. The IRS said it hired 3,500 representatives to answer questions. After four hours, an IRS representative told Mcnerney she wasn’t in the system and to call back Monday.
“I would’ve liked to tell the guy well just leave me on hold until Monday” she said.
Since Monday is a federal holiday, the IRS was closed to observe the holiday. Mcnerney said she is hoping for answers Tuesday morning when she calls again.
