IRS Tax Payment: is it possible to get an extension until October 15? - AS English

guduka.blogspot.com

The coronavirus pandemic changed this year’s federal income tax deadline and it was postponed to 15 July. Even though many states are surging in new coronavirus cases, which has led states like California to shut down for the second time since the outbreak, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) made it very clear that Tax Day won’t be pushed back again.

The Internal Revenue Service reminds taxpayers that they had until the postponed due date of July 15, 2020, to file an extension for their 2019 federal tax return. The extension gives taxpayers until 15 October to file, but taxes must have been paid on 15 July or else there could be penalties.

Individual taxpayers who need additional time to file beyond the July 15 deadline can request a filing extension to Oct. 15 in one of two ways:

Businesses that need additional time to file income tax returns must file Form 7004, Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File Certain Business Income Tax, Information, and Other Returns.
