After three hours of deliberation Thursday, a jury found Corena Marie Mountain Chief guilty of selling a kindergarten-age child to a man for sex.

Mountain Chief, 43, was accused in late 2018 of selling a 4- or 5-year-old girl to co-defendant Edwin Eugene Sherbondy for the purpose of sex.

She was charged with felony trafficking of persons and sexual abuse of children. The trafficking charge was later dismissed.

This week's trial was the second for Mountain Chief.

In an October trial before Missoula County District Judge John W. Larson, a mistrial was declared after jurors deliberated more than three hours and were unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

Larson presided over this week's trial, as well.

Sherbondy's trial in this and another case involving drugs and child trafficking and witness tampering are pending in district court.

Because the victim was under 12 years old, Mountain Chief faces a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 100 years in prison.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.
