The house in Easton is one of several which the County Board is offering to sell to local cities.
Easton and Elmore are taking steps to clean up blighted parcels in their respective towns by acquiring tax forfeited properties in their communities with the intent to demolish the rundown buildings located on those lots.
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, the Faribault County Commissioners approved the sale of property tax forfeited parcel 24.200.1100 located at 20 Cedar St. in Easton and three parcels in Elmore.
Two of the parcels in Elmore were located near 109 S. Mill St. The other property was at 210 W. Rasmussen St.
“The properties have been inspected and it has been confirmed the properties are blighted,” county auditor Darren Esser reported.
The County Board had previously classified all of the properties as non-conservation and set the selling price at $100 per parcel.
“Historically, this board has authorized sales to cities for less than the sales price to correct blighted conditions,” Esser said. “I recommend the board continues this policy.”
The board approved a resolution to sell the property in Easton to the city for the price of $1.
A resolution also passed allowing the city of Elmore to purchase the three parcels in the city for $1 each.
Public Works director Mark Daly attended the meeting and reported Leland Parkway had opened on Friday, Oct. 30.
“The striping is done,” Daly informed the board. “They are working on establishing some turf yet this year.”
Daly also told the commissioners all of the box culvert work in the county had been completed.
“This is going to be one of the first years in quite some time we are not carrying any projects forward into the next year,” Daly commented.
Sheriff Mike Gormley also attended the meeting to present a mutual aid agreement to the board for approval.
“This agreement is between Freeborn, Steele, Mower and Faribault counties,” Gormley explained. “The purpose of the agreement is to make equipment, personnel, the adult detention center of jail facilities and other resources available to a requesting party in the event of a natural disaster, fire, riot or other unforeseen circumstances which would cause the jail or the adult detention center of a requesting party to be inoperable for resident detainees.”
All of the other counties involved had already approved the agreement and the Faribault County Board also voted in favor of working with the other counties.
In other business the board:
• Approved the training request of Daniel Killion of the Sheriff’s Department to attend a Terminal Agency Coordinators (TAC) online workshop.
• Set Dec. 1, as the date for the city of Blue Earth- APX Construction Housing Project county tax abatement hearing. It will begin at 1:30 p.m.
• Directed Esser to work with county Economic Development Authority specialist Annie Leibel to use CARES Act funding to upgrade the equipment for virtual meetings which are held at the Ag Center conference room.
