Douglas Cramer, the prolific television producer behind shows including “The Brady Bunch,” “Wonder Woman” and “Dynasty,” is parting with his New York City apartment within the famed River House building on the Upper East Side, Mansion Global has learned.
Mr. Cramer, and his partner, artist Hugh Bush, listed the high-end co-op late last week for $4.85 million with Jim St. Andre of Compass.
The three-bedroom spread, with views over the East River, was designed by Mica Ertegun—who’s worked with the likes Keith Richards, Jimmy Buffett and Alice Walton—and is bold but unfussy, according to the brokerage. It was designed with a neutral palette and showcases the couple’s contemporary art collection.

“We wanted the apartment to be a place where you can entertain a group or hang by yourself. It has a formality when it needs to, as well as a place you can put your feet up, too,” Mr. Bush said in an email.
For the design of the home, “we looked at the building and the apartment itself for direction,” he added. “It is a special building and the layout of the rooms was so thought out. The building also has this great history and Art Deco feel.”
Direct elevator entry into a private vestibule opens onto the home's formal gallery. which separates the public and private wings of the home, according to the listing.
On the public side of the apartment, there is a bookcase-lined living room with a wood-burning fireplace that looks over the river. The formal dining room is finished with crown molding and custom trim work, and can comfortably seat 12 or more. There is also the kitchen, which comes complete with a butler’s pantry, and a staff suite.

“The living room became a place that you could really hang out in as well as entertain,” according to Mr. Bush. “The original fireplace in the living room looked like something [French interior design] Jean-Michel Frank could have designed.”
Originally surrounded by bookcases, they decided to make “more bookshelves to hold all our art books. Mica helped us bring out the best parts of the apartment,” he added.
Mr. Cramer and Mr. Bush, who also maintain a waterfront home on Miami Beach’s exclusive La Gorce Island, bought their River House spread in 2013 for $3.7 million, property records show.

The private wing’s entry gallery leads to the home’s two bedrooms, and a third that’s being utilized as a library complete with an Art Deco-inspired bathroom and a terrace, according to the listing.
“We wanted the apartment to be a place that was cocoon-like; we have fabric on the walls that make it feel very insulated, so you do not want to leave,” Mr. Bush said.
River House is one of New York City’s most iconic buildings. Built in 1931, over the years it’s reportedly counted Henry Kissinger, Uma Therman and Lady de Rothschild among its residents. Legend has it that when Joan Crawford's application to reside in the building was rejected, she commissioned the iconic and instantly recognizable Pepsi sign in Long Island City—directly across the East River from River House—as payback to the building’s board president, who at the time worked for Coca-Cola.
