MORGAN HILL — Bay Area investors have bought a chunk of Morgan Hill farmland from a well-known agricultural family that was the one-time operator of a popular but now-shuttered pumpkin patch.
Uesugi Farms has sold a property in Morgan Hill, a deal that extends the selling activity by the long-time farming family, according to Santa Clara County public documents.
In June 2020, Aiello & Sons, whose principal executives are Joseph E. Aiello, Peter C. Aiello, Katherine A. Aiello, and Wendy G. Aiello, sold 69 acres at 1020 State Route 25 in Gilroy to an affiliate of development firm KT Urban.
The price for the Uesugi farmland in Gilroy was $7.5 million, county documents show.
The Morgan Hill property involved in the most recent transaction involving a Uesugi site totals 7.2 acres, according to public records filed on Nov. 16.
Uesugi Farms sold the Morgan Hill site, located at 15100 Monterey Road near John Wilson Way, for $1.8 million, property documents show. Peter Aiello, Joseph Aiello, and Katherine Aiello were listed as the principal executives of the Uesugi Farms selling group.
The buyer was Igoo Properties, an affiliate headed up by Kow S. Lam and Yuling Liao, who have operations based in Gilroy, state business records show.
Lam and Liao are executives with companies involved in the real estate business, according to business databases.
For about a decade, Uesugi Farms operated a popular pumpkin patch and maze in Morgan Hill. Amid coronavirus-linked business shutdowns, the pumpkin patch wasn’t open for Halloween this year.
That would make the fall of 2019 the last year of operations for the patch, which was a popular stop for visitors and Halloween enthusiasts.
The Aiello family is now operating out of a residence in Morgan Hill, state documents show. The Aiello family couldn’t be reached immediately for comment.
Multiple telephone calls placed to the pumpkin patch’s main number showed the phone number was disconnected and no longer operating.
