Six ongoing petitions calling for President Joe Biden and Congress to deliver recurring monthly $2,000 stimulus checks until the end of the pandemic have now collectively surpassed 2.8 million signatures.

The largest Change.org petition—created by Denver restaurant owner Stephanie Bonin—asks the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate to pass legislation that would provide families with a "$2,000 payment for adults and a $1,000 payment for kids immediately, and continuing regular checks for the duration of the crisis."

More than 2,473,300 have signed the petition at time of publication, with nearly 155,000 new supporters in the past three weeks. The petition will become one of Change.org's most signed if it hits its goal of 3,000,000 signatories.

"The most common reason [people sign] is that uncertain feeling," Bonin told Newsweek. "We're still in uncertain times ... And it's times like this that it feels like people go back into a fear-based life."

Bonin was referring to the Delta COVID-19 variant, first seen in India, that can infect people more easily than other variants. Dr. Rachel Levine, assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, told CNN on Friday that the spread of the Delta variant will make it more difficult for the country to reach herd immunity, particularly in areas with low vaccination rates.

Bonin has issued regular updates to the petition since it was launched last year under former President Donald Trump. After Biden approved the third stimulus check of $1,400, Bonin said "our country is still deeply struggling. The recovery hasn't reached many Americans." She added: "We need immediate checks and recurring payments so that we can keep our heads above water."

Five smaller petitions on change.org for monthly checks have also continued to gain support over the past month.

The first, launched under Trump, calls for the president to "fight for monthly stimulus payments and be a hero to the people." Roughly 73,365 have signed the petition at time of publication—just 1,635 under its goal of 75,000.

A second smaller petition asks Biden and congressional lawmakers to support the group of senators that have called for the White House to include recurring cash payments in the next federal recovery bill. In March, Senators Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, and other Democrats in the upper chamber sent a letter to Biden asking his administration to move on further stimulus checks.

"I think our leaders must GO BIG and GO BOLD right now," the petition said. About 57,138 have signed the petition at time of publication, with 822 new signatories in the past three weeks.

A third smaller petition—launched by John Smith and addressed to the president, his administration and Congress—demands "immediate $2,000 + for every American per month." Smith first set a goal of 50,000 signatures, but the target was amended to 150,000 after the petition drew more support than anticipated. About 111,970 have signed the petition at time of publication, with roughly 30,000 new supporters in the past three weeks.

A fourth smaller petition for further direct payments asks the Senate to deliver monthly checks of $2,000 for unemployed Americans and those earning under $130,000 annually. About 93,160 have signed the petition at time of publication—more than triple its 29,000 signatures recorded in May.

A fifth small petition, launched by Clayton Morris, calls for "$2,000 stimulus checks until the end of this pandemic." About 29,452 have signed the petition at time of publication, with more than 500 new signatories in the past three weeks.

The six petitions have received more than 2,838,000 signatures collectively and continued to draw support on Saturday.
