LISTING OF THE DAY
Location: La Quinta, California
Price: $10 million
Steele Platt, founder of national sports bar chain Yard House, is selling this five-bedroom home in La Quinta California’s exclusive Madison Club development—where neighbors include an array of celebrities and business leaders, according to listing agent Valery Neuman of Compass.
“It’s a very elite group in a smaller community with high-end concierge amenities,” Ms. Neuman said. “You’re surrounded by massive, amazing views, and you’ve got access to fine dining, performing arts and culture.” The annual Coachella, Desert Trip and Stagecoach music festivals take place nearby.
The home itself, built in 2009, boasts a stone facade with steel supports, exterior granite accents and exposed wood beams throughout the house.

“I love the effort toward detail,” Mr. Platt, the seller, told Mansion Global. “Every corner of the house was thought out.”
A stone-paved circular driveway leads to a soaring entry foyer, whose tapered ceiling features wood beams and a dramatic hanging light fixture. The entryway opens to a great room optimized for indoor-outdoor living—“a big deal here,” Ms. Neuman said.
The great room sprawls to include a living room, kitchen, dining area, and a wine room. Custom built-ins include a wall-sized etagere that houses a television and a granite-topped dining table that juts out from the wine room’s stone wall. The sale includes all furniture and accessories, except a few pieces of Mr. Platt’s own art. “All of it was custom-made, including the rugs,” Ms. Neuman said.
Three sets of pocket doors retract to connect the south-facing great room to the home’s expansive back pool deck and outdoor terrace, which features its own entertainment area, misting systems, heaters, a built-in barbecue and two fireplaces. “And there’s easy access to the kitchen,” Ms. Neuman said. A rock waterfall feeds the freeform swimming pool. The backyard grounds also feature a putting green.

With a vaulted wood-beamed ceiling and rough-hewn stone walls, the home’s rustic main bedroom features its own fireplace and a custom-built bed in dark wood. Its en-suite bathroom features a walk-through shower enclosed by glass walls; the bathroom opens to a private patio. Two other bedrooms in the main house boast their own en-suite bathrooms.
There’s also an office and home theater with plush cinema-style seating. A detached guest house includes a fireplace, a small kitchen and two bedrooms, along with a two-car garage.
Stats
With 8,299 square feet of living space set on about 0.86 acres, the single-story house features five bedrooms, five bathrooms and one half bathroom, along with a detached guest house.

Amenities
While the home is listed for $10 million, membership in The Madison Club, on whose grounds the house is located, runs another $250,000 for initiation and $50,000 annually.
Along with a Tom Fazio-designed golf course, club amenities include a deluxe fitness center, private dining with in-house chefs, a full-service spa, private movie theater and the Discovery Performance Center, “dedicated to giving Madison Club members the ultimate in golf instruction experiences.” Club perks have helped draw A-list buyers from Cindy Crawford to Fuze Beverage founder Lance Collins to various Fortune-500 CEOs.
Talking Points
The home’s siting and design maximize its stunning desert setting. “The house faces south, which is a big selling point here,” Ms. Neuman said.
Mr. Platt said views over the pool and golf course never get old. “The sunken fairways of the Madison Club present a unique view that is unparalleled in the desert,” he said. La Quinta itself is almost entirely surrounded by the Santa Rosa Mountains.

Neighborhood Notes
La Quinta is part of the Coachella Valley, which includes Palm Springs, Palm Desert and Indian Wells. The municipality has 25 golf courses, 16 parks and miles of biking and hiking trails, according to its website. While it has traditionally drawn golfers and older retirees, the region’s been drawing younger and even more affluent buyers, Ms. Neuman said. “It’s not just about golf anymore. It’s a huge change from 20 or 30 years ago. It’s now younger people with their own kids looking for their own adventures.”
Along with ample outdoor recreation, the Valley offers fine dining, performing arts, culture, and easy access to shopping and professional services, Ms. Neuman said.
The property market has reflected the Valley’s newfound cachet. “I’ve been doing this full-time for 30 years, and I’ve never seen this dynamic,” Ms. Neuman said. “Fear was the driver at the beginning of the pandemic, and it brought everyone out here with their kids. Now, they’ve realized they can work from anywhere, and they’re making it their primary residence.”
