Some parents are wondering where their child tax credit payment for August is.
Laporsha Nance told Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke she relies heavily on the child tax credit payments. She said she got the first payment, but is still waiting on the one for August.

Nance said she was supposed to get the payment by direct deposit, and she hasn’t received any updates explaining the hold up. She’d like to use the money to help cover school supplies for her daughter.
“It puts frustration on top of frustration… expecting something that’s not here just yet,” she told Stoogenke.
According to the Internal Revenue Service, there was a glitch impacting direct deposit – so the money is coming, but it may be delayed.
“Due to a technical issue expected to be resolved by the September payments, a small percentage of recipients — less than 15% — who received payments by direct deposit in July will be mailed paper checks for the August payment,” the IRS stated.
Channel 9 discovered that there are other reasons someone may not receive the money:
- Make sure you’re eligible. Parents who earn $75,000 or less and file taxes as an individual, or $150,000 or less and file as a couple, are eligible for a total of $3,600 per child under 6 and $3,000 for children ages 6-17. Parents that earn more will receive less.
- Make sure the IRS has the right bank account or mailing address on file. Click here to check your information.
- Confirm how you’re supposed to get the money. If you are set up for direct deposit, check with your bank. The IRS may have sent it, but it’s not showing up yet.
- If your notice shows that your payment was issued more than five days ago, you can request a payment trace. Click here for instructions.
- Make sure someone has not stolen your mail or your identity. If you suspect either of these, notify the police and the IRS.
