People who receive Supplemental Security Income will see their next monthly benefits payment of up to $914 in 10 days.
The payment on Sept. 1 will be the first of two during the month of September due to a scheduling quirk that happens multiple times a year.

Because the payments are delivered to beneficiaries on the first day of the month, when the first day of a month falls on a weekend or a holiday, the Social Security Administration issues monthly SSI payments the business day prior to ensure recipients have the check by the first of the month.
This means that recipients receive two checks in the same calendar month multiple times a year. Despite this quirk, recipients will still only receive a total of 12 checks per year, one for each month. This year there are four months in which two payments will be delivered under the same month: March, June, September, and December. This is because the first of the month falls on a weekend in April, July, October, and January 2024.
The September payment will be issued to beneficiaries on Sept. 1, while the October payment will be sent out on Sept. 29 because Oct. 1 is on a Sunday.

The payment amounts for beneficiaries depend on their status. For individuals, the rate for payments is $914 per month. The rate for eligible couples for monthly payments is $1,371. Essential persons, people who live with someone receiving SSI and provides them with necessary care, have a monthly payment rate of $458.
SSI payments were first issued by the Social Security Administration in January 1974, with payment rates increasing for the cost of living adjustments since 1975, according to the agency.
