The IRS updated its website with more information for Americans who are waiting for their coronavirus stimulus payments, saying the money for certain beneficiaries would start to go out in May.

The added guidance covers stimulus payments for recipients of Social Security retirement, survivor, or disability benefits (SSDI), Railroad Retirement benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and VA Compensation and Pension (C&P).

“While some of these groups receive Forms 1099, many in this group don’t typically file tax returns,” the IRS said on its website. “Many people in these groups are expected to see the automatic $1,200 payments later this month (April), with SSI and VA payments expected to start in May.”

It repeated previous counsel that those who filed tax returns for 2019 or 2018 will receive the payments automatically.

People who don’t usually file a tax return and receive those benefits will also receive the payments automatically, it said.

The IRS also said those who do not file tax returns and don’t receive those benefits need to register with its Non-Filer tool before they can receive a benefit.

The IRS has been sending out new batches of stimulus benefits every week and it’s expected to continue through early September.

U.S. citizens and U.S. resident aliens will receive as much as $1,200 for individuals and head of household filers and $2,400 for married couples. If you are a dependent of another taxpayer or if you have an undocumented family member, you will not receive a payment.

To qualify, you must have adjusted gross income of up to $75,000 for singles and married couples who file separately, $112,500 for head of household filers and $150,000 for married couples who file joint returns.

You will get a partial benefit if you’re single or married and filing separately if you earn up to $99,000, up to $136,500 for heads of household and up to $198,000 for married couples who file jointly.

Parents will also receive $500 for each child aged 16 and under.
