Homes in Allentown are selling in 9 days. In Abescon, they’re selling in nearly 70 days.
Despite the disparity, homes throughout the state are spending a shorter period of time on the market.
The average number of days between when a house is listed for sale and when an offer is accepted is down 41% from 2020 to 2021.
In 2019 and 2020, a single family home in New Jersey spent an average of 65 days on the market. In 2021, single family homes are selling in 38 days, on average, according to data from New Jersey Realtors.
Low interest rates and low inventory are fueling the quick sales.
“We’re seeing houses come on the market Monday morning at 9 a.m. and they have an accepted offer at 5 p.m.,” said Robert White, of Coldwell Banker Realty in Spring Lake and incoming president of New Jersey Realtors. “Agents now are having to create spreadsheets to present all the offers to buyers.”
NJ Advance Media used data from Redfin and averaged the number of days on the market for January through July. We used census-designated places that had 10 or more sales for five of the seven months.
