The way in which social security payments are handed out in the United States of America is very simple on the face of it. That being said, systems rarely fit nicely into calendars and that is why social security payments can still cause a bit of confusion.
In simple terms, the date of your birthday affects when within any given month you get your social security check, of which millions are handed out to Americans by the central government each month.
There is a different schedule for July in comparison to June which people may need to plan ahead for. That schedule will be as follows:
- July 12 - If your birthday falls on any day from the first to the 10th of your birth month, you'll get your July Social Security payment on the second Wednesday in July.
- July 19 - If your birthday falls on any day from the 11th to the 20th of your birth month, you'll get your July Social Security payment on the third Wednesday in July.
- July 26 - If your birthday falls after the 20th of your birth month, you'll get your July Social Security payment on the fourth Wednesday in July.
Is it the same for SSI payments?
One thing that people must remember is that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) runs on a different schedule to standard social security.
The July payment for someone receiving SSI was actually due on June 30, regardless of birthdays.
In the event that the payment day falls on a weekend, it will be moved to the preceding business day. Beneficiaries who retired before May 1997 are also not included in the schedule based on the date of birth of the recipient and instead receive their checks during the first week of every month.
