Pittsburgh Parking Authority adds apps for payment convenience in the city - TribLIVE

With more people using mobile apps to pay for parking, the Pittsburgh Parking Authority says it wants to make parking in the city more convenient.

The Flowbird mobile app and the Meter Feeder app are being added to the Go Mobile PGH app as payment options for a total of three different mobile apps available to pay for parking time. The Go Mobile PGH app has been available since 2016.

All three apps can be downloaded from the App Store for iOS and the Google Play Store for Android, and give city parkers more choices. The Parking Authority said users can pay for parking from their mobile devices, receive text notifications when time is about to expire and extend their time without having to run to a meter.

It’s all about expanding touchless payment options and giving users more choices, said David Onorato, executive director of the Pittsburgh Parking Authority.

“We feel that it is very important to give our parkers as many convenient ways to find and pay for parking as possible to remain in compliance with parking regulations,” said Onorato. “There are several popular mobile applications on the market today and we want people to have choices in which app they prefer to use.”

The timing for adding mobile app options couldn’t be better with covid restrictions in the process of being lifted and restaurants and theaters gearing up to bring in more patrons during the summer and fall.

Meanwhile, for those more analogue oriented, the Parking Authority said it will continue to offer payments by credit card or coin at over 1,000 parking kiosks throughout the Downtown area for non-app users.

The new mobile applications will be available this Spring according to the Parking Authority. Authority personnel will be installing new decals on all of the parking kiosks to inform parkers about the available apps.

More information can be found on the Authority’s website at www.pittsburghparking.com.
